Dear Dayton: The G & T Show just celebrated their 1 year anniversary. Yours must be quickly approaching as well. So, I’ll go ahead and ask you, what’s your favorite episode of the G & T show? Or, since it’s been said that you only listen to the show for your segment, which is your personal favorite?
No, I don’t just listen to the show for the “Ask Dayton” segment. I mean, I already know what Nick’s going to say during this part, remember? You know…the shit he’s reading right this very second? I wrote it yesterday, or the day before. Granted, I was probably drinking when I did it, and so I don’t recall every last word, but I think I’m usually able to grasp the overall gist of the column I write each week.
Or, you know………..not. Hey, anybody gonna eat that bagel?
Anyway, who keeps perpetuating this falsehood? Nobody’s going to tune into this show just for my bit, least of all me. I made a joke about this…what? Once, six months ago? Hey, here’s an FYI: I say a lot of shit you’re not supposed to take seriously. Four out of five things that come out of my mouth are just stuff made up on the fly. For example: Did you know that as Nick reads this, he’s wearing a ballerina tutu and a hockey mask, after having slathered himself with I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter, and not even the spread but instead just the spray? That’s right, he doesn’t even have the courtesy to use real fucking butter when he does this.
Okay, I’ll probably be listening when Nick reads this part.
So, favorite episode, huh? I don’t really have a single favorite. I’ve been enjoying the show from the beginning, and Nick and Terry are friends of mine. Of course, when the show started, they said they’d be talking about Star Trek books, a few of which I’m responsible for foisting upon an unsuspecting public. How often does that happen, anyway, squirrel chasers? On the other hand, I’ve enjoyed the interview segments featuring the likes of Larry Nemecek or one of my fellow authors, or the folks from Star Trek Online as well as other fan-produced podcasts. The “Ask Dayton” thing came later, and even if they announce that this answer is the last one? I’d keep listening.
I mean….fuck. I figured they would’ve killed this segment months ago.
Okay, specific examples? In particular, I enjoyed the show discussing the creation of Foundry missions and writing fan fiction, and the one focusing on the DS9 episode “The Siege of AR-558” because that is one of my all-time favorite episodes of that show. Also, I dig any episode where Terry and Nick talk at length about any Star Trek novel, whether they like it or not. I like the fact that they don’t pull their punches and give what I feel are honest critiques, regardless of which way they come down on a particular title.
Oh, and any time Terry talks about being naked is a good show. Nick? Not so much. Carry on, boys and girls.
