G & T Show 51 – Teri’s Voyager Watch: Extreme MEGA-Pack! is now available for downloading. Give it a listen here. This week Nick, Teri, Mike are back with a new episode with special guest Deyvid. They’ve got a mediocre Star Trek 12 Movie News and Star Trek Las Vegas. A brand new Ask Dayton and Listener mail from Christopher13, Defcon, and Johnny Q. Finally, Teri’s been very busy this week with a massive discussion for Teri’s Voyager Watch.
This week’s episode opens with Nick talking about his enjoyment of Richard Pryor while he battles with sleep issues for yet another week, comparing notes with Teri over their favourite comedy films, including Blazing Saddles, A fish Called Wanda, and Animal House.
Leaving those squirrels behind and moving onto star trek news, we open with the news that Hasbro is launching a Ciro edition of the JJ-Enterprise.
While Terri searches for pictures of the Ciro enterprise, Nick makes an announcement regarding Impressions of Sound, which due to technically difficulties may be postponed.
As we move into STLV news, it is less than a month till the convention opens and even less till our guests begin their Albuquerque to Vegas road trip while Teri announces that the cabana for the G&T group has been reserved for those joining us at the convention. Nick reminds us of a couple of planned activates including drag queen bowling, and leading us off into another squirrel conversation about bowling on the Enterprise and getting some G&T Show bowling shirts. In addition, Teri also mentions that she has an extra room available for any of our listens who may be struggling finding accommodation in the build-up to the convention. A preview of William Shatners latest documentary, Get A Life, has also been posted on the Creation website and will be screened at STLV.
Before we jump into this week’s Ask Dayton, we get a quick reminder from Sori asking for people to help write the show notes for the coming weeks. Moving onto Ask Dayton, we deal with the topic of how to ensure our kids become trekkies. Teri and Sori share some stories with us about enjoying trek with their younger relations, from Teri enjoying gummy-worm Gagh with her nephew to Sori’s niece wanting Star trek novels as her new bed time story.
Before we get into this week’s listener mail, Nick provides us with another reminded for the G&T show audio contest. Our first letter is from Defcon, regarding the latest announcements on release date of new Trek literature on 8 of 5’s blog. Moving on, our next letter is from Datalogan regarding the resurgence of William Shatner’s popularity, contesting Teri’s claim that it was Boston Legal and instead cites the movie Free Enterprise as Shatners new embracement of the camp. While Nick steps out for a few minutes to deal with computer issues, Teri and Sori talk to us about STO and the addition of Tholians on the Tribble servers, which is met with resounding applause from our crew, whom have enjoyed all their new Tholian missions immensely. With Nick return, we move onto the next letter, this time from JohnnyQ and sharing with us Star Trek: Despair, a music video for Creation Entertainment’s 2012 Star Trek Music Video Contest. We wish him luck with his wonderful entry.
Our final letter comes from Christopher 13, and it is a long one. To boil it down for the convenience of our readers, it focuses largely on comments made by our cast last week regarding the announcement of IDW “Hive” comic book series to be written by Brandon Braga and comparing them to David Mack’s Destiny Trilogy and the Doctor Who crossover comic, Assimilation. In his letter, Christopher talks about while he is no great fan of Braga, he will still buy the comics, believing them to probably be more enjoyable then Assimilation. This discussion of comics and crossovers leads to a lengthy discussion between our cast on crossovers they would like to see, with suggestions including Eureka, Predator, Farscape, Firefly and Levage (with the characters as Ferengi)
With our listener mail complete, we move onto the main crux of this week’s episode, Teri’s voyager Rewatch. In a shocking turn of events, Teri and Alan have not watched just one new episode but 14, ranging from second season’s Unity to third season Nemesis. Our voyager discussion opens with discussions on each of the episodes, with Teri looking positive on most of them with the Favourite Son. As we move onto discussing Scorpion, we take a few minutes for our crew to rage and complain about the treatment of Kes’ Jennifer Lien and her replacement by 7 of 9’s Jeri Ryan. We also discuss the introduction of Species 8472 and the continued emasculation of the Borg.
Moving on, the cast discuss Worst Case Scenario and how the rouge hologram angle really brought the episode down. Next, we move onto Nemesis, an episode which Teri and Nick both enjoy immensely, particularly the aspects of the brainwashing and how it relates to Chakotay’ own prejudice towards the Cardassians. As we approach the 2 hour mark, we begin discussing Nelix and fans distaste towards him and Teri appreciation towards the character as the eternal optimist
With the end of the show fast approaching, Nick takes the time to make some announcements regarding Star Trek London, which has announced Arlene Martel, T’Pring, will be attending the convention. Our crew discuss deputising Cerb and Trek Radio’s Star Trek Girls to provide coverage of the convention. We end our show discussing the upcoming book release dates, information for which can be found on our forums
