The Fan Dance – Boldly going to London!

The Fan Dance – Boldly going to London!

That’s right; the G&T Show is heading to Destination Star Trek London this October in the form of correspondent… well me, MidNite Shadow!

For those of you who do not know who I am, my name is Steve Roberts but I am better known as MidNite Shadow or MidNiteShadow7 in many Star Trek and Star Trek Online circles.

As well as being a Star Trek fan, a Star Trek Online player and an all-round geek who loves computers, TV, and film, I am also one of the hosts of the G&T Show’s Book of the Celestial Temple Book Club.

This year I will be expanding my role for the G&T Show by writing blogs for Terilynn’s The Fan Dance blog on the lead up to the three day event. I shall also be reporting live from the Excel Centre during Sunday’s usual broadcast of the G&T Show on October 5th, 2014 and I hope to get interviews with Star Trek stars, authors and fans that will be released as supplemental logs after the event.

The Fan Dance - Boldly going to London!

Destination Star Trek (by Media 10 in association with Showmasters) is returning to London where they started in 2012 and to where they had a reported 18,000 fans walk through their doors who were all able to enjoy the launch of this new convention with all five TV Star Trek Captains appearing on the guest list.

The joy of the 2012 event did eventually fade as many UK and European Star Trek fans became disappointed in 2013 when no news came from the organisers about the return of the convention.

When we did finally hear something it was an announcement that they were taking the convention to Germany!

This move away from London did anger many UK fans who had been desperately waiting and hoping that it would return to the Excel Centre; but still, over 11,000 fans attended the Frankfurt convention in February 2014 with many from the UK still making the hop, skip and jump to Destination’s new home.

Since the success of February’s Destination Star Trek (DST) in Germany, Media 10 announced that there was to be yet another Destination Star Trek for 2014 and to the delight of UK Star Trek fans it is returning to London.

So far the guest list comprises 33 people that include William Shatner, many of the TNG crew, Jeri Ryan, Tim Russ, James Darren (who is rumoured to be singing that weekend!), Ronald B. Moore and even friend of the G&T Show, author Larry Nemecek.

Most surprisingly the guest list also includes Leonard Nimoy who will be joining the event in a live video feed talk. Click here to head over to Destination Star Trek’s full guest appearance listing.

Now here at the G&T Show, we are all about the story, so hearing that Larry Nemecek, a Star Trek author and editor, is to be attending was great news to us. Given the huge success of Star Trek literature in the past year I then contacted Star Trek authors James Swallow and Una McCormack (two of the authors of the recent Star Trek: The Fall novels who got on the New York Best Sellers list) who actually live in the UK to find out if they might be attending too, but sadly they have not been invited… yet!

I think that promoting Star Trek literature at this year’s convention would be a wonderful thing so I sent a tweet to people of Destination Star Trek asking if James and Una can be invited before they get booked on another gig.

If you too would like to see Star Trek literature better represented with these great authors, then why not tell the organisers of DST through social media outlets like Twitter and Facebook so they know what you the fan base want to see.

This year the DST team behind these social media accounts are very active and they have already been interacting plenty with fans on a regular basis – just please remember to be respectful and not troll them as you’re not very likely to get a response that way!

So how much will attending DST set you back? Well, for a ticket without any other perks except for admissions, for just one day is £29, the weekend pass for Saturday and Sunday is £39 and to attend for all three days it is £49 – which are the same prices they used in 2012. There are of course lots of other ticket packages available that range from £225 to £2,999 that include anything from talk tickets, priority seating, goodie bags, tickets to parties, meet and greets and much more that are available to purchase.
You can find all the pricing information by clicking this link.

In future blogs I’ll go into more detail about what you can expect to see at the convention along with any other news and information I come across regarding Destination Star Trek, so keep an eye on Terilynn’s The Fan Dance blog on the G&T web site as I’ll be back again soon.
