Dinner with G &T 2015
Nick announced the specials. There was a salad with balsamic vinaigrette, chicken almond by Terry, and then, evidently, a Xanax pie. So it’s gonna be one of those dinners.
This year, we’ve got two cameras. Next year, there might be a medical procedure conducted. Because we are an educational show.
The marinating chicken was presented to our studio audience as a wine was selected for the evening (although your intrepid reporter believes that some alcoholic beverages might have been imbibed prior to the commencement of the broadcast). The vegetables, including snow peas, were presented to the audience for their approval. The jasmine rice is cooking and is apparently the name of a porn star. Jim Ferris started furiously Googling.
Nick reported that the radios were not originally working on the plane – he had to work to get here! I don’t know why he didn’t tell them that radios are obsolete and podcasting is the way to go. Oh, wait, wrong kind of radio.
Nick also reported on the trip to Hooters as the group started working on getting to the chatroom to chat with the studio audience about something other than snow peas.
Jim then, well, I’m not so sure what happened, but it involved poking the camera. Sorry, Steve. Jim was having his first beer, and he claimed it was not his very first beer, although Nick was somewhat skeptical. A discussion was then held about the difference between Hooters and Tallywackers.
Mike revealed that he will be partaking of Mike’s Hard Mango Punch. I don’t know why he was punching mangos, but I don’t judge.
Janice asked about favorite dance scenes. Mike likes the dancing doctor from Trek. Jim revealed that he dislikes Dirty Dancing but likes what I think was Footloose. Nick loves the movie Tap.
What’s your favorite holodeck program? Vulcan Love Slave!
As a dance scene was reenacted (words fail me), the snow peas were thrown in the wok. The snow peas gave their lives for that dance scene reenactment. I hope you all appreciate that.
Favorite Trek quotes was interrupted by the arrival of the lovely Laurie!
Tangle with the Borg, or fight to the death with the Klingons? Nick will tango with Laurie, he says. It was a dance kind of an evening.
Nick performed a quick Klingons of Long Island preview, and then everyone agreed that they’d love to go to Risa or Wrigley’s Pleasure Planet. Nick then revealed he would also visit Cleavage World.
The German Shepherds were then introduced. They did not dance.
Jim revealed that the PS in Jim PS Ferris stands for Papa Smurf. What followed was a lively discussion of smurfs.
After about a half an hour, Allen arrived to correct canon but he didn’t note that Jim was wearing a red shirt and so I fear for his life.
Which episode of the Animated Series has the best storyline, and why? Yesteryear – because it’s the most Treklike. Mike also liked the practical joker one, where the Enterprise would play jokes on the crew.
They started drinking Xingu, which may have been an alien race. Nick revealed that he’s drinking Not Your Father’s Root Beer and it’s got lotsa alcohol.
Texas Trekkie Girl wanted to know if she’d be getting drunk if she visited.
Who are your most detested characters in Trek and why? Mike said Ensign Selena Gomez, mainly because of her acts in the first season. Laurie dislikes Commander Shelby and Dr. Pulaski. There was a discussion of how inconsistently Janeway was written. Terry dislikes Keiko O’Brien.
Who is a necessary supporting character? Jellico! Kira the Intendant and Mirror Ezri were also beloved.
Jim then showed off Vicious Circle Amber Ale.
The chicken started sizzling!
Which beer would your favorite characters drink? Nick thinks Garak would drink something imported from Germany. Jim says Sisko would like a Guinness; Laurie disagrees and thinks a mint julep and not a beer at all. Mike says Worf would like something prune juice infused. Terry suggested a chocolate stout. Laurie says Jadzia would enjoy something fun to make her the life of the party. In canon, per Jim, Kirk drank a Michelob in the fourth movie. Nick grabbed an Alaskan Pale Ale and claimed Riker would prefer it.
What’s the worst episode of each series? TOS – Spock’s Brain; And the Children Shall Lead! TNG – Sub Rosa. DS9 – Allamaraine! If Wishes Were Horses. VOY – Threshold; Endgame. ENT – Dear Doctor; These Are the Voyages.
What is being served for dinner on each series? ENT – Catfish; DS9 – Jambalaya; VOY – Leola Root; TOS – tuna salad sandwich; TNG – something replicated.
Mike expressed adoration for the Captain Proton series of holodeck novels; Nick countered with the Dixon Hill series. Jim believes Captain Proton is the name of a condom.
Fantasy Trek gals? Jadzia, Seven of Nine, Robin Lefler ….
Nick then showed off the stir fry!
Where would you cast Felicia Day? Maybe the Sarah Silverman role? The group got quiet but that probably was due to the stir fry being consumed.
Admiral Tade got a new puppy! 🙂
How would the group be cast? Allen would be Harry Mudd! Terry would be the black tar monster from Skin of Evil? Jim would be in Darmok and Jelad. Mike would be the Klingon ambassador (played by John Shuck). Nick would be Garak. Steve would be …? Laurie wants to be Kai Winn, or maybe Kai Opaka.
Mike then sung in Klingon!
Favorite episodes in each series – TOS – A Piece of the Action; Shore Leave; City on the Edge of Forever TNG – Measure of a Man; Drumhead; Chain of Command; Best of Both Worlds DS9 – It’s Only a Paper Moon; The Magnificent Ferengi; Little Green Men VOY – Counterpoint; Scorpion ENT – In a Mirror, Darkly; Augments arc; Klingon arc; any episode with T’Pol with long hair ….
How could you cross over Stargate? Yes, Stargate, to Trek – Atlantis!
Who will do the most embarrassing thing at STLV this year? Jim!
Everyone talked about what they’re looking forward to seeing and learning at STLV. Laurie is looking forward to seeing Patrick Stewart for the first time. Mike wants to find out what’s up with STO. Terry wants to reconnect with Trek Radio and others. Jim is looking forward to seeing Chase Masterson.
As for comic films, Nick is looking forward to Super Girl. For TV, Terry’s waiting for Agent Carter. Mike is interested in The Dark Knight.
One person who isn’t coming to STLV who they want to see is Ronny Cox.
There was another message from Janice, who we all wish was there and we all love!
Congratulations to Admiral Tade for starting his first job!
As the group wrapped up, they thanked Steve for all of his hard work! Yay Steve! They also thanked me (before they saw this blog post …). The group then discussed their closing song, possibly Lou Reed’s Satellite of Love. It ended up being Steam’s Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Good-bye.
