G & T Show 190 – Naked Klingon Perp Walks
G & T Show 190 – Naked Klingon Perp Walks is now available to download. Check it out here. This week both Terry and Nick are away so Janet (Jespah) and our cuddly Klingon gets creeped out by Steve (MidNite Shadow) and Black Magnum (Anthony)! This week, they discuss Marvel before they start on the latest happenings in the Star Trek Universe with Star Trek News, Product News, Celebrity News, Convention Updates and more.
Nick and Terry are away so Janet (Jespah) kicks off the show with Mike and Steve. The gang are then shortly joined by the smoothest voice in the galaxy, Black Magnum (Anthony). As everyone catches up on how they are and what they’ve been up to in Coffee Klatch, Jespah tells us she is anxiously waiting on grades. Steve says he’s been super busy at work and recently looking after his nephews as his sister-in-law is sorting her house out. Mike tells us how the dogs got upset at him when he provided their breakfast 30 minutes late recently, so much so they gave him grief for the entire day to make sure next time he won’t miss their meal time! Anthony then tells us he too has been busy at work and with podcasting before he gets the conversation going about dogs and their attention seeking. Mike then says he saw Avengers and how that movie is the way to write a story for an ensemble cast. The group then talk about Avengers (without giving away spoilers) which moves on to 3D movies and 3D glasses, Ant man, and discussing several other films including some oldies like the Raquel Welch flick: Fantastic Voyage and Inner Space!
After a short … cough, cough, Coffee Klatch, Mike moves us into Star Trek News and tells us about an article remembering TOS Writer Don Mankiewicz and then on to the Star Trek: The Official Magazine’s tribute to Leonard Nimoy where the cover features a portrait of him as Spock.
The next item we talk about is Movie News, but we start with a movie that is not Star Trek but with a big Star Trek connection with it. Ted 2 is to have many Star Trek alum in it. Seth MacFarlane heads it up with Patrick Stewart, Michael Dorn, Nana Visitor, Ron Canada and Martin Ben taking part in the film. Jespah tells us that May 11th is the 10 year anniversary of Enterprise’s final episode, ‘These are the Voyages’. The gang talk about the episode and what was bad about it. Afterwards Jespah says it is also 20 years since Voyager was first aired – Black Magnum wondered if he is really that old! Jespah asked if the first episode holds up. Then They discuss how Voyager was the first two part pilot. Mike wonders if they could have survived on the Marquis ship. Then, they talk about the similarities between Tom Paris and Nicholas Locarno. Mike has his theories about why they were not, but Steve debunks it with a single observation.
Mike then tells us about the new Seekers book covers that have been released. Steve compares the two covers and notes how aspects of them look connected and wonders if the stories might be connected, but Mike says they aren’t. Mike then reads the blurbs from the covers.Pre Order Seekers 3 – Pre Order Seekers 4
We then discuss Product News and the Enterprise-D Transporter Room Shower Curtain that is now available. Mike was about to move into gaming when he felt the need, in honor of Nick, to squirrel or even gerbil (something Steve says – best just to listen!). This squirrel reveals the location of our missing hosts. Terry and Allen are currently in Amsterdam, while Nick is having shooty time at a still undisclosed location. Mike provides another hint for the contest — it is that he’s somewhere in this hemisphere. The discussions then take a turn to the dirty side which Janet missed due to being disconnected from the studio. It was enough to creep our cuddly Klingon out and ultimately lends itself to the name of this week’s episode!
Next we move along to Star Trek gaming news. Mike kicks this segment off with the preview for Star Trek Timelines followed by an expansion to the NECA/WizKids Table top game with the Kyana Prime expansion that is based on Voyager’s Year from Hell. Jespah brings up an article about what really happened with GamerGate. Basically, the bloke behind it all is a jerk! Soriedem brings us back to more gaming news with information that the Family Guy game, he discussed last week has extended their Star Trek event, so Mike is happy.
Mike then brings us into Star Trek Online (STO) News. We talk about week 5 of Delta Recruit. We currently have a boost to energy credits (EC) and gold pressed latinum (GPL). To get next week’s dilithium boost, our recruits are required to replay story missions – Steve is unsure that we’ll hit tier 3 this time. Black Magnum says he doesn’t want to replay missions. Steve also mentions that he now has 21 Delta Recruits… Black Magnum calls that an army! Next we cover the role play blog, Tales of War (#2) – everyone loves the image of an Orion Rosie the Riveter. We then discuss Iconian Marks and where you earn them, dilithium, upgrade tech and epic gear upgrades. We finish off the STO segment promising to get Jespah to create an account once she finishes school.
For Convention News we start off with information about SCI Fest L.A. that will take place on May 7th to 31st at The Acme Theatre in Hollywood. Attendees include Walter Koenig, Armin Shimerman, Tim Russ, Nazneen Contractor, Patricia Tallman and Tucker Smallwood.
The Star Trek Las Vegas (STLV) convention now has 93 stars currently set to appear. The most recent announcements for participants include: Eddie Paskey, Celeste Yarnall, Hagan Beggs, Chase Masterson, Saul Rubinek, Brenda Bakke and Kipleigh Brown. Kipleigh will once again be joining the team at the G&T booth. Steve is pleased that G&T is mentioned on the Creation website. Jen Usellis says she’ll be in Chicago for Creation’s Star Trek Chicago convention. She’s excited to get her picture taken with George Takei.
Jespah brings us back to some extra Star Trek News that was not mentioned earlier in the show with news about affordable Star Trek-like transparent aluminum that could protect phones, windows, and lenses. We also mention how Star Trek has inspired so many other inventions that we now use and how even the bad episodes have inspired some good creative ideas. From the article, it looks like it would have military applications before commercial.
Wrapping up the show, Mike moves us into Announcements and starts with a shout out to Jen Usellis (AKA The Klingon Pop Warrior) whose album is now out. Mike then starts us on the contest information by reminding listeners that they still have a chance to win a copy of the Star Trek: The Next Generation: Takedown novel that Terry is going to have autographed. Just be the first person to identify Terry’s favorite scene in Star Trek: Titan: Absent Enemies to win. The competition to get a Star Trek celebrity to say they never listen to the G&T Show is still open for a chance to win Star Trek: Catan. Jespah says that we still have not decided on who gets what prizes for the #WhyIGnT competition. Mike confirms he has the prizes and will sending them out as soon as he gets home from New Mexico. The contest to guess where Nick is currently playing soldier boy is on-going and the clues given so far are not Germany, regular driving and within this hemisphere. As a reward for the correct guess, he will send you an local delicasy. For all of these contests, you should email your answers to [email protected]. Black Magnum reveals that this podcast, Club 602, will be talking with people from the 5th Passenger film in 2 weeks. Mike finishes off saying he was very happy that we had Black Magnum on the show and that there was no mentions of mac and cheese or grilled cheese sandwiches! Finally we are reminded that next week Terry will be back, but Nick will still be away.
Steve will also, on occasion, guest host on the main G&T Show.
In real life Steve works full time in IT providing desktop support, creating web sites, databases and anything else that that needs an IT solution!
In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his wife and son, reading Star Trek novels, playing Star Trek Online, podcasting, audio editing and watching science fiction.
