G & T Show 191 – Return of the Tal Shiar
G & T Show 191 – Return of the Tal Shiar is now available to download. Check it out here. This week Jespah, Soriedem and MidNite Shadow are here and are later joined by a long lost host, but it’s not the one you think! Nick managed to get a break in his schedule was able to join us. This week, they discuss the latest Marvel news, Star Trek News, Book News, STLV Updates and Mother’s Day among other topics. You don’t want to miss it.
This week Janet (Jespah) kicks of the show and introduces Chip ‘n’ Dale Mike (Soriedem) followed by Steve (MidNite Shadow). After a little chit chat the gang hears some strange noises at the studio door and Steve is volunteered to check it out as he was wearing a red shirt! After a quick look around outside, they continue the show and talk about Jespah’s grades, which she still has not received. More whispers are heard before the Tal Shiar operative only reveals himself. Nick (Gettysburg7) joins us live from an undisclosed location for a short amount of time. Nick inquires about the mess in the studio – he does not like the pink. He then gives another clue about his location for the competition and the chat room starts guessing away. Mike announced that Terry and Allen are now home. Nick asks about Chloe, one of Terry’s dogs. Mike shares how the dogs reacted to Terry and Allen’s return home.
With Terry and Allen back, Mike joined them when they went to see the Avengers. He enjoyed the film just as much the second time round as the first time. It prompts Nick to discuss Joss Whedon quitting Twitter over viewers raging about Black Widow (*SPOILER ALERT*) not being able to have children. This then sparks a huge discussion about stories, the characters on Avengers, Arrow, Flash, Agents of Shield, Agent Carter (which is coming back), Gotham, Dare Devil and more! Nick then informs us that he has now finished reading the novel Star Trek: The Next Generation: Takedown.
After a lengthy Coffee Klatch, Mike moves us into Star Trek News and starts us off with details about the new The Next Generation (TNG) Coins that are now available. We then remember Grace Lee Whitney, who played Yeoman Janice Rand in The Original Series (TOS) and we talk about her character, and her development in the films. We are then told that Star Trek guest star Ellen Albertini who played Dr. Crusher’s grandmother, in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode “Sub Rosa” (or as Mike likes to remember her as the rapping granny who sang “Rapper’s Delight” in the Adam Sandler comedy The Wedding Singer) has also passed. Mike then moves us in to some brighter news and Tim Russ’s tongue in cheek video description of Star Wars Day for May 4th.
We now move briefly to Book News where Mike tell us about the StarTrek.com guest blog by Rob Caswell. He inspired The Seekers book series being written by David Mack, and Dayton Ward and Kevin Dilmore with his James Blish themed mock ups. In the article, Rob discusses his creative process.
Moving back to Star Trek News, Mike informs us of the Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage Live Tour. They have added more dates to the tour. They start in London, UK and then travel all over North America. Nick brings up that Mike sounds like he is loosing his voice – Mike blames Terry for bringing a cold back from Europe. Nick quips that Mike shouldn’t have been making out with Terry and Allen!
The next few announcements revolve around gaming and starts with the Attack Wing tabletop game and their latest update featuring the USS Pegasus. Star Trek: Timelines has added the Cardassian Galor Class Cruiser to their upcoming mobile game. Mike also talks about the three classic Star Trek games being re-released via Good Old Games (GoG) and Steam. The Games include: Star Trek: 25th Anniversary, Star Trek: Judgement Rites, and Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. Heading over to Star Trek Online news, Mike starts off talking about the new Pilot ships. Mike thinks all the designs are lovely. Steve thinks the Klingon ships are especially nice, but doesn’t like the Romulan ships – they look ugly. There is currently a 20% off sale going on, but this sale does not include the new Pilot ships. Mike and Steve then start talking about the new maneuvering features that the ships have. Steve and his son really likes them. Mike then announces that Cryptic has released exclusive interviews with Robert Duncan McNeill (Tom Paris) and Lisa LoCicero (Miral Paris) who have recently revived their roles for STO. They then talk about the Delta Recruitment Event. We’re on the final week for leveling the global targets and next week we’ll get bonus marks for whatever tier we hit for playing PvE queues with our recruits.
Then, we’re on to the STLV update. Nick says “Hi” to Kipley. He’s excited to have her at the G & T booth again this year. Added to the list is Natalija Nogulich (AKA Admiral Nechayev from TNG) and Brenda Bakke (Rivan from TNG). Nick and Steve briefly talk American Gothic and bad TV scheduling before Mike announced that Allen and Terry have left for the airport and Terry’s business trip. Everyone was disappointed that she was not able to join them briefly before she had to leave. Nick then gives another couple of clues about his location based on temperature. He confirms that he is not in the Middle East. Nick then announces that he should be retired from the service by the time STLV rolls around after 28 years in the Army.
Mike then wishes all mothers a Happy Mothers day. We discuss the article from StarTrek.com that celebrates Star Trek Moms. They mention all of the moms seen in Star Trek and fail to select their favorite one. Nick asks Mike if there has been any news posted about new novels from Defcon. There has not been. Mike suspects he’s been busy.
Nick then takes the opportunity to thank all the people that joined Mike as hosts during their (Nick and Terry’s) absences. He also thanks the fans for their support during this time as well. He also thanked Mike for being the glue holding the show together.
The conversation moves into how G & T has brought Mike out of his shell – from being shy to singing in Klingon a capella on stage at STLV. They recall stories about previous STLV road trips. Mike also thanks everyone for joining us too. Nick says he is still working on plans for 24 hours of G & T on Halloween where we’ll be getting our geek on and having guests like authors, Generations Geek, and Club 602. The last two hours of the event will be our regular live show. We expect everyone will be loopy from no sleep.
They start wrapping up the show by moving onto this week’s Announcements. Mike asks Nick about the prize for the where is Gettysburg7 contest. Due to the lack of transportation, he’ll be picking something up from the airport on his way home. Nick asks that answers be tweeted to @SundayGandT. Listeners still have a chance to win a copy of Star Trek: The Next Generation: Takedown novel autographed by John Jackson Miller. To win, you need to be the first person that identifies Terry’s favorite scene in Star Trek: Titan: Absent Enemies and email the answer to [email protected] The competition to get a Star Trek celebrity to say they never listen to the G&T Show is still open for a chance to win Star Trek: Catan. Prizes for the #WhyIGnT competition are in Mike’s hands and he’ll be shipping them all out when he gets home, so expect them to be shipped in a couple of weeks and Mike will be in contact with the winners to get mailing details.
Nick then gets distracted by an image of Sarah Connor that is posted by Matthew Anderson in the chat room before Jespah talks about the 12 Trials of Triskelion over at AdAstra Fanfic.net that starts the week of the 17th of May, where they will host several Star Trek writing challenges set over the 12 weeks of the summer – everyone is welcome to write, read or review. The first week is Flash Fiction where you need to post 300 word stories each day of the week. Jespah says she has her stories outlined ready to go. Nick asks if that is cheating! Nick then says he wants to do a writing workshop in 24 hours of G&T. After talking about old books and beavers, Nick finally says we need to start planning for episode 200 as well. Our 200th episode should air on July 12th. He suggests booze will be needed on the show!
Steve will also, on occasion, guest host on the main G&T Show.
In real life Steve works full time in IT providing desktop support, creating web sites, databases and anything else that that needs an IT solution!
In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his wife and son, reading Star Trek novels, playing Star Trek Online, podcasting, audio editing and watching science fiction.
