Coffee Klatch

First of all, we had our usual introductions (including Steve!). And then we headed straight into Coffee Klatch. So poor Mike is not feeling well at all! Therefore, I am here to fill in as Steve does the sound engineering. Because yes, we need two people to fill in for Mike. Also, Nick went to see Logan, and had a great week with his family. Terry had fun playing a role-playing game via Live Love Play. Also, she was busy with work.

BLB Productions News

In addition, we played a promo from Live Love Play. Ross is one busy guy! Please support him and remember to live, to love, and to play every day. We greatly appreciate your support not just of our show but of all of the BLB Productions.

Book News

First of all, Terry reported Trevor Roth and Rod Roddenberry have partnered up with Marc Cushman to write the fourth These Are the Voyages book.

In addition, we discussed the email announcement from Star Trek Continues. Also, we covered Chasing the Infinite Sky. It seems like a special effects proof of concept, and is extremely well done. Per Mike, the story centers around a kind of new drive, and the ship is heading out to explore.  Hence it seems rather AU. Furthermore, Terry noted the Guidelines are rather clear and pretty easy to adhere to. You can do it! Because fan films have existed for decades and those stories can still be told. Also, fan films can do this on the cheap and still end up amazing.

Product News

First of all, Mike found on a LEGO forum this question. Should Star Trek come to LEGO Dimensions? So Mike came up with a good year of LEGO Dimensions content! He came out with ideas for TOS and TNG. Picard would have Livingston and Riker would have his trombone. Also, he came up with packs for each series. Also, he feels a TNG Wesley Crusher with a portable tractor beam would be great. Plus he feels the ‘world’ could be Deep Space Nine. So as you played more, you would open up more ships for exploration, and that would bring in all of the series nicely.

Book News

First of all, Terry purchased Dayton Ward’s new TNG book, Headlong Flight. She was heartened to see the Star Trek books prominently displayed in her local bookstore. Then we looked at the Gold Key 100-page Spectacular preview.

Mike then brought up Michael Westmore’s new book about his career as a makeup artist, Makeup Man.

Gaming News

We then covered Star Trek Online and the Foundry. Nick wonders if there is a foundry on the console. However, Steve says no. Although you can be a Romulan from the get-go, which Nick thinks is great. So, thank you to Al Rivera and everyone at Cryptic.

Discussion

We talked about the stories we would like to see, read, and hear. Nick mentioned Scotty and Geordi, the ‘main’ yet secondary characters. So he would love to know what were they like. Terry immediately told Nick about Arc of the Wolf by SL Walker. Because it is a wonderful collection of fan fiction about Scotty. Nick would have liked to have seen more on Garek, Kurn, and the Romulan commander from Face of the Enemy (TNG). Furthermore, he mentioned Miles, Chakotay, and Pulaski.

What about main characters who need backstories?

And then the talk turned to Beverly Crusher. Did she loved Picard before Jack Crusher? We’re not so sure about that.

Mike brought up the Ferengi Pel, who dressed as a man in order to be Quark’s assistant and, eventually, confess her love for Quark. Also, Nick brought up T’Pol and Rand from the chat room. Both would have had fascinating origin stories. What about Worf’s father? Mike would also love to learn more about Dax (beyond the books). Also, the chat room brings up Shran from Enterprise.

And then there’s Rachel Garrett. However, we agree we would like Morn to remain an enigma. Nick imagines Morn as almost a Richelieu character. And then Nick brings up Flint from the TOS episode, Requiem for Methuselah. However, Mike points out that was covered in the books. Also, Kevin Reilly – was he covered in The Autobiography of James Kirk? What about Kodos the Executioner?

We love Mr. Leslie from TOS. Didn’t he survive more or less everything?

Fan fiction leads the way

Terry wants to know how Betazed became a member of the Federation. She likes following Lwaxanna’s family and points out that Betazoids feel uncomfortable when they cannot read minds. How do they work with Ferengi? Therefore, she would love to read about the politics of Betazed joining the Federation.

The Mirror Universe and the Movie-Verse

Mike would love to know about Empress Hoshi and the MU Spock. However, licensed books already cover this. He then mentioned the Klingons Kruge and Martok. Also, what about Ilea and Decker? And then the discussion turns to Wrath of Khan and Carol and David Marcus.

And then we took some time out for some squirrels, including talking about the wonderful Ricardo Montalban.
