G & T Show STLV 2015 Coverage – Teras Cassidy and Larry Nemecek Interview
At the 2015 Star Trek Las Vegas convention, we sat down with Geek Nation Tours and its owner, Teras Cassidy.
Nick says he thinks they have been at the convention for about six months. Terry agrees!
Teras reports that even Larry Nemecek was surprised at something they found on a recent tour when looking for, evidently, Picard’s hole (I’m not making this up, folks!). This is when, during Star Trek: Generations, the character had to crawl under the force field. At the visitors’ center, they also learned there is a rock that looks like the Enterprise. They also toured the killer bridge and the silica dome.
Seriously, if you thought the ‘geek‘ in Geek Nation Tours was a gimmick, it isn’t!
Get your picture taken at Vasquez Rocks with a bamboo cannon. Rod Roddenberry and Chase Masterson will be a part of next year’s tour, as will Cirroc Lofton. Of course they will also go to next year’s STLV, which will be five days long instead of four. Larry Nemecek fills you with Star Trek goodness! Teras thinks about thirty people can go on the tour; any more than that, the tour gets a little too big.
The cost of the tour is of course on their site. As Nick says, they are a lot of fun and are always a blast to be around. They don’t just do Star Trek tours! They will go on history tours, etc.
Larry Nemecek arrived after about thirteen minutes! They told him all about hot Star Trek goodness, a fact that amused him to no end. He confirms that the tours are great fun. They get tourists from all over the world and people develop a very real camaraderie.
Before finishing up the segue, Teras revealed an affinity for the Federation of Beer. Nick says it’s brought to you by the letter 12 and Buck Bokai‘s rookie card.
Our hosts expertly segued into an interview with Larry Nemecek as they asked him about something called Portal 47. They multitasked and worked on the third day of the raffle. Terry drew the name Amy S.! Kipleigh Brown and James Kerwin then arrived, there was hugging and, of course more of a discussion of hot Trekkie goodness.
What can I tell you? It’s the third day of a con. Fourth? Seventeenth? I have no idea. But we all get punchy, even your intrepid reporter does, and I didn’t even leave Boston.
Getting back to the topic, Larry talked a bit more about his vision for Portal 47, where he seeks to serve the informed long-term fan and also the fans who have only been fans for maybe a year and are new to Trek. He does his best to use his knowledge to bring this information to others and keep that convention feeling going on all year long. He is very excited about this new idea and is looking to bring to other science and science fiction ideas the kind of attention to detail that he brings to Star Trek. Want more information? Contact him at [email protected] and mention Portal 47 and the G & T Show.
We also talked to Larry about 24 Hours of G & T, coming up on October 31, 2015, and invited him to join us!
Larry also mentioned his support for the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics)-centric project, Enterprise in Space. Larry is also creatively consulting on Star Trek Continues.
Filling you with more Star Trek goodness than you can possibly handle, thank you, Larry and Teras!
