G & T Show 185 – That was like a show!
G&T Show 185 – ‘That was like a show!’ is now available for downloading. Check it out here. This week Terry is away so Jespah and Steve join Nick and Mike. They discuss sleep deprivation before getting to this week’s Star Trek News, STO News, a quick update for STLV plus they talk a little about Star Trek books and Nick grinding (in STO of course!). Don’t miss this week’s episode.
The show opens with Soriedem being very sleepy and with Terry away on shore leave MidNite Shadow (Steve) steps in and the team starts talking about lack of sleep before squirreling away into fairy tales!
They then talk about a tweet Nick sent yesterday about Bill Murray being a great Starship Captain, and the team share their thoughts about how he would be as a Captain. This is then followed by Nick getting side tracked noticing new people in the chat room. He then starts some interrogations to try and find out who they are!
We then have Jespah join in the fun where we kick off with Star Trek News. The first item we discuss is how quickly people jumping on the band wagon about news of a new Trek TV series which once again turns out to be false. Despite the news being false, Soriedem still has his conspiracy theories that he shares with us all.
Afterwards, Jespah says something that makes Steve chuckle, it was a line from Firefly, Nick moves along the conversation with news of a Firefly re-union … or not!
Next up they start talking about Star Trek movie news where Simon Pegg has come out saying that the new movie will be moving towards “frontierism and adventure and optimism and fun” and the news that Idris Elba will probably be a bad guy.
We then briefly discuss the return of X-Files, Firefly comes back into the show, followed by Foghorn J. Leghorn … we don’t like to squirrel too much!
Mike then moves the news along about Patrick Stewart’s new show Blunt Talk. Steve mentions how much fun it would be if Patrick Stewart would have Ian McKellen with him in a future episode given their antics when they are out and about!
This is followed by Mike announcing that Neil deGrasse Tyson’s upcoming late-night program ‘StarTalk’ will debut on April 20th at 11pm on the National Geographic Channel.
To Nick’s dismay, Mike takes delight in talking about the 21st anniversary of the DS9 episode of Blood Oath that is a very Klingon filled story!
We then move into Star Trek Online news starting with Pilot Bridge Officers and their new traits, but mainly discuss their names … or at least how dirty they sound!
The discussion then moves along to the new changes to the PvE mission Azure Nebula Rescue on Normal and Advanced difficulties. Steve says he’s tried Normal and got loads more marks than he remembers getting previously. The gang talk about how if these changes work Cryptic will plan to roll them out to all the other PvE queues.
Mike then talks about Sela escaping and the new Featured Episode. We don’t go into much detail as the mission has only just been released, but Steve and Mike talk about problems players had completing the mission and how it should now be fixed since an emergency patch was released by Cryptic. They then quickly mention the new time-gated release of the new set rewards.
Nick then talks about how he is still bored with STO and we talk about game play and the enjoyment of Delta Rising and the upcoming Delta Recruitment. Nick is still happier playing World of Tanks. Nick then moves away from STO to talk about the Women at Warp podcast before the chat room brings the discussion back to Nick’s STO grind.
The team were distracted with some issues posting to Twitter, while Jespah filled us in with a little bit of STLV news. Copper weekend packages and Captain’s Chair tickets are now on sale. She also said she could not find any new guest announcements before going to shout at Twitter!
Discussions headed back to STO again in regards to Nick’s grind before going back to STLV where Mike announces that Terry had previously in the week mentioned that the G&T Show booth has been confirmed.
Nick then goes straight into announcements and starts with the news that the G&T Show is preparing for their 24 hour fundraiser on Halloween and it will debut their Klingons of Long Island. They shed some light on the latest developments on this project, including the fact that it will take place in the 1980s.
DJ SummerWolfe asked about video for the 24 hour event. Nick wants to do this and he and Steve discuss the option of using Twitch!
Mike talks about his Ice World Truckers story he’s expanding it with a few new instalments. He also tells us that Uncle Mike has now introduced his nephews to great 80s classic films like the Goonies, Beetle Juice and Big. It prompts Nick to mention some films that were originally written for other people including Bill Murray as Buzz Lightyear!
Thanks to a message that Nick receives, the team starts talking about the weather and how he wishes he could just go to Nimbus III.
Nick then talks about the ‘These are the Voyages’, Season 3 Book by Marc Cushman that he is half way through and he and Mike then discuss aspects of the Production of TOS based on things mentioned in the books. Mike says these books are a must read if you’re interested in TV production and then Mike and Nick continue to talk about the book series.
Mike was asked by Nick how Jen Usellis is doing. Mike informs us that she has had her surgery and is on the mend.
The G&T Show announcements continue with information on the contests we’re running (after Nick manages to once again speak actual words!).
For a chance to win Star Trek: Catan, listeners are required that attend conventions to get a celebrity to say that they never listen to the G&T Show. To win a copy of the Star Trek: The Next Generation: Takedown novel that Terry is going to have autographed, you need to be the first person that identifies Terry’s favorite scene in Star Trek: Titan: Absent Enemies. Finally, they talk about the social media campaign #WhyIGnT for Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Google+, and YouTube – There are lots of prizes up for grabs!
In the final announcements, Mike tells us that Gates of Sto’vo’kor is waiting on audio for several scripts that they had sent out. Jespah thanked Mike for being a Beta reader on a story she’s working on.
Steve says he’s half way through reading Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: The Missing, Mike informs us he’s reading a Typhon Pact book called Paths of Disharmony by Dayton Ward, which spurs him to remind people to send questions in for Ask Dayton. On a final note, Mike tells us that Jespah has a book. She tells us a little about it and where you can pick it up.[amazon template=thumbnail&asin=1476782717] [amazon template=thumbnail&asin=B00F8KUJ7Q] [amazon template=thumbnail&asin=1476750238] [amazon template=thumbnail&asin=143916083X]
