Welcome to our STLV 2016 – Al Rivera – Captain Geko from STO Interview!

G & T Show STLV50 STLV 2016 – Al Rivera – Captain Geko from STO Interview
Al wore a 1701-F hat. Terry Lynn truly coveted it.
Note: This interview contains spoilers!
Agents of Yesterday
First of all, Al talked about the new expansion release, Agents of Yesterday. It is a truly revolutionary portion of the game. Mike really loves that they included Agent Daniels. He admitted he enjoys seeing Daniels suffer! Al brought up the final two seasons of Star Trek: Enterprise. It bothered him that a lot of the show’s story was not properly concluded. So one of the purposes behind this expansion release was to address that. Furthermore, this is one of the missions of Star Trek Online in the first place.
Further, Al felt Shadow Man AKA Future Guy was not well explained. The story line seems to have just fallen off. They were excited to get Matt Winston to reprise his on-camera character. Winston has a rather large role in the expansion. Terry Lynn says the art is very good. He was easy to recognize. So if you know Enterprise, then you will recognize the actor.
And Terry Lynn felt the final battle was particularly well done.
They brought in the Original Series via the Temporal Cold War. Al says it was of course related to the fiftieth anniversary. And the vehicle in game was the canon Battle of Caleb IV. Romulan and Klingon players could join. This is because both species are involved in the canon incident.
Impressive Work and Al’s Personal Favorite
They put the characters and situations together particularly impressively. Further, the missions are fun. They contain a myriad of variables. And the rewards system is well done. Also, this provides an incentive for a current player to roll a new character. Al admits the mission was somewhat complicated to keep organized. Hence if a player had already met Scotty, the dialogue differed from if the player had not yet met this iconic canon character.
He loved the Return to Babel episode. For him, it made the most sense to follow that canon episode.
Because William Shatner is not in game, some dialogue was used. However, Kirk’s face is not seen on screen.
They reference other story lines all the time. This included Redjack as Jack the Ripper. As a result, he gives full credit to the writing team.
Upcoming Console Gaming
The game is coming to XBox One and Playstation IV! And these will be the full games. They have updated all of the graphics. Al believes controller support may be added to these new console versions. However, this requires a user interface rework and rebuild. The interface is much cleaner. Al says this was a rather difficult endeavor. So they shall see. If there is a large demand, then they will seriously consider it. The consoles will be separate accounts, as they are currently on separate servers.
Future Plans
Al says they are mainly ready for sleep at the end of the convention! But they are already creating the winter event. So there really isn’t anything he can talk about right now. Al gave away some great prizes at the convention, including codes. He sees more and more STO uniforms at conventions.
In addition, STO will be at Mission: New York on September fifth. They will be at FedCon as well. Finally, Al reminds everyone to check the STO website for future announcements.
