It was wonderful to meet Mr. Rudnicki and Ms. de Cuir. They are a part of the audio book for the new book recently completed by legendary science fiction author (please don’t sue us!) Harlan Ellison, City on the Edge of Forever. Two years ago, it was converted into a graphic novel as well.

All about the audio book

They used the original teleplay. It won the Writers’ Guild Award in 1966. It is fully dramatized. And the incredible full cast includes actors such as Levar Burton. It also includes the work of David Gerrold, John Rubinstein, and Scott Riggs. Furthermore, there are superstars of the audio book world as well as of the Star Trek universe.

This is Ellison’s full original teleplay, and it even includes the camera directions. While this is not usually done, Harlan is such an incredible writer that, according to Stefan, “Even the directions are amazing!” As a result, they give so much more of a sense of what he was trying to say with the piece.

There are also some treatments of the piece. And Mr. Ellison was asked to do a rewrite. So the results were the prologue and the first act. Then there is also Mr. Ellison’s rather lengthy essay. Mr. Ellison describes the genesis of the project. He gives a glimpse of the world into which he wrote the piece. Ellison even passionately writes about the controversy surrounding City on the Edge of Forever.

The best parts of the project

It’s just such a beautiful piece of science fiction writing, Gabrielle said. And the performers did such a wonderful job. Since Gabrielle was the project’s director, her job was to channel the author’s intent. The actors were to support the story and not let it get in the way of their own interpretations. She said it just flowed easily.

Plus the project is timeless. There was even a bit about keeping people out of the United States due to their religion. It’s just so timely.

Where can we find the production?

Check out SkyboatMedia.com. The City on the Edge of Forever is but one of their many titles. Stefan is even a Grammy winner!

We thank them for this wonderful interview.
